DENVER, Oct. 28, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) Unveils New Policy for Products and Tests
The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) today released an updated schedule and a new schedule for obesity medicine certification exams. This entire document, which describes the special knowledge, skills, and abilities that obesity doctors need, will serve as the basis for the certification exam starting with October 2025 exam. The exam notes and transcripts are now available to the public and exam candidates on the ABOM website.
As the only organization that oversees the certification of bariatric medicine doctors in the United States and CanadaABOM is responsible for identifying and defining the boundaries of the field of obesity medicine. Over the past 18 months, ABOM has used a comprehensive, comprehensive approach to understand and explain the current knowledge of obesity medicine due to the significant changes in clinical practice since the project began.
“These new documents represent a major step forward for the board and the field of obesity medicine,” said ABOM Board Chair Dr. Judith KornerMD, PhD. “It provides a clear answer to the question of what a bariatrician does and describes the expertise needed to manage obesity.”
The new document was developed through a rigorous review process conducted by subject matter experts followed by an empirical study of more than 700 obesity-related physicians. Led by psychologists from Professional Testing, Inc., the process produced an updated document that is more detailed than previously reported. The new schedule not only covers the topics covered in the exam as in previous versions, but also provides a more detailed description of the work of an obesity doctor.
The abstract is divided into three basic sections:
1. Screening and evaluation of patients with obesity
2. Treatment of obese patients
3. Professional treatment of obesity
Under each area, similar tasks are identified, specific methods for accomplishing those tasks are defined, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to complete each task are defined.
